Overview

chasinglight is a sunrise and sunset tracking app. We take your privacy seriously and collect only what is necessary to make the app work. We do not sell your data.

Location Data

chasinglight requests access to your device location to calculate sunrise and sunset times, quality scores, and nearby spots for your current position. Location data is used on-device in real time and is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties.

Data We Collect

Location — used only to fetch sun times and nearby spots. Not stored.
Purchase receipts — processed securely through Apple's in-app purchase system. We receive confirmation of subscription status only.
App preferences — your sunrise/sunset mode preference is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. It never leaves your device.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information. chasinglight does not require you to create an account. We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics platforms, or third-party tracking of any kind.

Third-Party Services

chasinglight uses the following external APIs to provide core functionality:

sunrisesunset.io — to retrieve sunrise, sunset, and golden hour times. Your latitude and longitude are sent to this API to fetch results.
Open-Meteo — to retrieve atmospheric weather data used for quality scoring. Your latitude and longitude are sent to this API.
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) — used in the Explore tab for city search autocomplete. Search queries are sent to this service.
Apple In-App Purchases — all subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not process or store payment information.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, chasinglight will send you alerts before upcoming sunrises or sunsets. Notification preferences are managed on your device and can be disabled at any time in iOS Settings. We do not use push notification services that track open rates or engagement.

Children's Privacy

chasinglight is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
